Spain will be the organizing country in 2023 of the annual congress of the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV) in Jerez and in Cadiz from June 5 to 9, after the one held in Mexico in 2022.

OIV sources told EFE that the attribution to Spain was formalized at the General Assembly held at the end of last week at its new headquarters in Dijon.
Spain is one of the countries with more wine tradition and the appellation of origin of Jerez one of those that has more international prestige, the sources pointed out.
In fact, Spain is the country in the world with the largest vineyard area and the third one for the value of its wine exports, behind France and Italy. At the congress in Jerez and Cádiz, the successor of the Spaniard Pau Roca will be elected general director at the end of his five-year term.
Before that, this year’s will be held in Ensenada, in the Mexican state of Baja California, bordering the United States, from October 31 to November 4.
It is expected that 2,500 people will participate, of which about 1,000 from the 48 member countries of the organization, which has among its main missions the international harmonization of practices and standards.
